Cloud security and Gen AI trends in KSA’s thriving cyber landscape

The realm of cybersecurity is undergoing rapid transformation, with two key trends poised to shape the landscape in the current year: generative AI and cloud security.

Adrian Drozd, Security Practice Leader at Frost & Sullivan, remarks, “The cybersecurity industry is preparing for a dynamic year ahead. We’re observing a continued rise in XDR adoption, growing demand for SASE solutions, and heightened emphasis on supply chain security.”

Abdulaziz Jalab, Vice President and KSA Country Leader at Frost & Sullivan, highlights Saudi Arabia as a standout in the global cybersecurity arena, with its market estimated at SAR 5 billion in services and solutions for 2023.

Jalab notes, “Saudi Arabia has emerged as a frontrunner in cybersecurity, driven by initiatives such as the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA). The introduction of the Haseen portal has further enhanced the nation’s cybersecurity landscape, offering a centralized platform for accessing essential cybersecurity services tailored to national entities.”

Illustrating Saudi Arabia’s ascent in cybersecurity, the nation secured the second position in the global Cybersecurity Index by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) last year.

Looking ahead to trends for the remainder of 2024, both Drozd and Jalab highlight generative AI and cloud security.

“Generative AI is set to transform cybersecurity across sectors, prompting strategic moves by cybersecurity vendors. We anticipate increased investments as vendors seek to integrate AI, either through acquisitions or partnerships with AI providers. This infusion of AI into cybersecurity solutions is expected to enhance effectiveness and enable proactive defense against cyber threats,” explain the experts.

As cloud adoption continues to surge in Saudi Arabia, vendors are expanding their cloud security offerings, providing protection across multiple layers—from cloud infrastructure to application codes.

“This expansion ensures a comprehensive code-to-cloud security framework, bolstering remediation capabilities against evolving cyber threats,” conclude Drozd and Jalab.
