Launched on June 30, 2025 under the name Total Defence, the new PvE mode introduces a cooperative gameplay layer where players, alongside two wingmen, must defend strategic ground targets from successive waves of enemy aircraft. Over the course of up to ten dynamic and increasingly challenging waves, players are tasked with repelling enemies ranging from agile fighters to powerful bombers and bosses.
Expanding gameplay depth
While existing game modes like Dogfights (3v3 and 5v5), Domination, and Annihilation emphasize aerial agility and reflex-based competition, the PvE mode brings a new kind of challenge and tactical cooperation. With enemies attacking from multiple directions, players must make split-second decisions on how to allocate their defences and prioritize targets. Victory is achieved by surviving the full sequence of attacks and defending ground targets.
“- The introduction of PvE mode is a natural extension of the core gameplay philosophy behind Wings of Heroes. Our players value skill-driven combat, and this update raises the stakes by introducing new mechanics, co-op tactics, and long-term challenges. It’s also a foundation for future gameplay expansions including story missions and social features like team-based objectives,” – said Michał Szurma, Product Owner of Wings of Heroes.
Strategic expansion for future development
PvE represents a key milestone in the game’s roadmap, as it introduces new technological and design frameworks that pave the way for further innovation. The mode lays the groundwork for upcoming features such as mission-based content, friend-based co-op, and customized scenarios, enhancing long-term engagement.
By combining the thrill of air combat with structured defence objectives, Wings of Heroes reaffirms its position as a player-first title that rewards mastery, strategic thinking, and persistence. PvE is not just a new mode – it’s a platform for future content that will keep players engaged through a rich, evolving gameplay experience.
Continued improvements to core systems
Alongside the introduction of the PvE mode, the latest update also brings a series of enhancements to core gameplay systems, reflecting the team’s ongoing commitment to quality and player feedback. Key changes include refinements to the Battle Pass experience, introduction of the Plane Mastery feature, and significant updates to the League system.
Plane Mastery deepens the game’s competitive layer by encouraging players to specialize in individual aircrafts. Pilots can now compete for dominance with specific planes, earning prestige through exclusive milestones. The most dedicated players are rewarded with a Master Livery – a striking black-and-gold livery that signals elite status. This feature incentivizes players to explore the full aircraft roster rather than focusing solely on a limited selection.
In response to community feedback, significant improvements have also been made to the League system, which plays a key role in fostering structured, long-term competition. Among the most requested changes is the ability to retain ranks earned during the league season, providing a stronger sense of progression and achievement. These updates further strengthen the game’s LiveOps foundation and ensure a rewarding experience for competitive players.
With each update, Wings of Heroes continues to evolve beyond standard flight simulation, offering a competitive and content-rich experience that engages both new and veteran players.
