Telenor establishes Nordic cybersecurity company

Telenor is taking a proactive stance against the increasing cyber threats facing Norwegian enterprises with the launch of Telenor Cyberdefence, a new entity dedicated to cybersecurity services and consulting.

According to a statement from Telenor, the initiative was prompted by rising cyber attacks targeting local businesses and the public sector. Research commissioned by the operator revealed that 130,000 Norwegian companies fell victim to cyber attacks in the past year.

Sigve Brekke, CEO of Telenor, emphasized the unprecedented frequency and severity of cyber threats today, underscoring Telenor Cyberdefence as a pivotal step towards bolstering digital security with a strong focus on Nordic markets.

Leading the charge as CEO of Telenor Cyberdefence is Thomas Kronen (pictured), who brings extensive experience from his previous roles as board member and MD at Orange Cyberdefence Norway. Kronen will oversee the company’s comprehensive suite of services, including a security operations centre, consultancy services, and IT infrastructure testing.

Approximately 50 security professionals from Telenor Norway will transition to the new cybersecurity entity, which will also assume responsibility for servicing around 70 existing enterprise security customers of the operator.

Kronen emphasized the collaborative approach of Telenor Cyberdefence, stating that it will unite security experts from across the Nordic region to deliver robust capabilities aimed at safeguarding customers’ digital assets.

Telenor Cyberdefence operates under Telenor Amp, a division within the operator managing a portfolio of 15 companies specializing in high-growth sectors such as cybersecurity and IoT.
