STEAM: new digital course on artificial intelligence launched for teachers in Moldova

Backed by the European Union, a digital training course was launched on June 10 in Chisinau, Moldova, with the aim of enhancing teachers’ expertise in utilizing Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI).

The interactive course, titled ‘Generative Artificial Intelligence in STEAM Education and Student-Centredness,’ seeks to equip educators with innovative teaching methodologies and digital tools, including Generative Artificial Intelligence, to foster students’ engagement in learning. The course inauguration occurred during an event showcasing the outcomes of the project ‘Enhancing innovative student-centered teaching-learning practices in schools in focal regions: Ungheni and Cahul through the integration of digital technologies and STEAM projects.’ This initiative, financed by the European Union and executed by UNICEF, drew participation from over 100 students and teachers representing 12 schools in Ungheni and Cahul.

During the event, attendees presented the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) projects they had been collaborating on in recent months to devise innovative solutions addressing real community issues. In total, 385 students and 83 teachers from the two districts were engaged in these initiatives.

One such project, ‘EcoRevista Agro-Tur Sculeni,’ spearheaded by the Theoretical High School of Sculeni in the Sculeni District, aimed to educate students about the significance of agro-tourism in fostering sustainable development within the local community. Employing a STEAM approach, the project delved into the principles and applications of agritourism. The culmination of the endeavor resulted in the creation of an interactive digital magazine by the students, featuring articles and reports showcasing local agritourism experiences.
