Goldman Sachs MD who left for Stripe joins another fintech in Singapore

Wise’s Latest Hire Showcases the Convergence of Traditional Finance and Fintech Expertise

In the early days of fintech, companies often had to choose between hiring someone with senior experience in traditional finance or someone with senior experience in fintech. However, the recent hire by $10 billion payments fintech Wise demonstrates that today, it’s possible to find talent with extensive experience in both sectors.

Arvind Guruprasad has joined Wise in Singapore as its APAC head of risk. Over the past two years, he worked at another payments giant, Stripe, initially as its global lead for financial risk management, and later as APAC head of treasury and financial risk.

Guruprasad’s career is rooted in traditional finance, having spent most of his professional life at Goldman Sachs. He started as a senior analyst in New York in the mid-2000s, then completed an MBA before rejoining Goldman Sachs as an associate in its Bengaluru office. Over the next decade, he rose to the position of Managing Director, eventually becoming the global head of liquidity risk analytics and reporting within risk engineering.

While Stripe has been aggressively hiring globally in 2024, its focus on Singapore has been limited, with only 20 current job openings. In contrast, Wise, despite having a smaller global headcount, seems to have a larger presence in Singapore, with just one less job opening in the city than Stripe. Both fintechs, however, added software engineering interns to their Singapore offices last month.

Guruprasad’s move to Wise reflects the growing trend of cross-pollination between traditional finance and fintech, bringing together deep-rooted financial expertise and innovative technology-driven approaches.
