Meta hires JPMorgan’s ex-fintech AI head in London

Meta’s Aggressive AI Talent Hunt Bears Fruit with Fintech Hires

In a bid to bolster its AI capabilities in 2024, Meta, formerly Facebook, has gone to great lengths, including personal outreach from CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself. While Zuckerberg’s personal messages appear reserved for Google Deepmind employees, Meta’s recruitment drive extends beyond tech giants to tap into the talent pool of finance industry professionals.

The latest addition to Meta’s London team is Onur Guzey, who assumes the role of AI engineering manager within the core ads team. Guzey brings a wealth of experience from his three-year tenure at JPMorgan, where he served as head of machine learning engineering for the bank’s asset management division. Prior to his stint at JPMorgan, Guzey made significant contributions to the fintech landscape, notably at OakNorth Bank, where he held the position of head of AI, overseeing the establishment and growth of AI and data science divisions.

Guzey is not the sole fintech expert to join Meta’s ranks in 2024. Earlier in March, Xiang Li, a former staff engineer at Coinbase, was welcomed aboard the broader ads team. Li, with a more conventional background, boasts valuable experience gained from previous roles at industry giants Microsoft and Google.

Meta’s strategic recruitment of fintech talent underscores its commitment to enhancing its AI capabilities and leveraging diverse expertise to drive innovation across its platforms.
