Game Dev London, the preeminent community for fostering talent and collaboration in the UK games industry, successfully hosted a community-led Global Game Jam site which topped the charts as the most popular of its kind in the world. Game Dev London achieved this feat by partnering up with a selection of prominent universities across the London area, showcasing the creativity of both students and the thriving Game Dev London community.
Representatives from leading UK universities, including ACM Games Academy, Goldsmiths, University of London, London College of Communication (University of the Arts London), London South Bank University, SAE Institute, and Staffordshire University London, participated in this groundbreaking event.
The event took place simultaneously at Goldsmiths, University of London, as well as across the Game Dev London Discord server, where over 400 participants gathered, making Game Dev London the biggest Global Game Jam site in the UK. This collaborative effort resulted in the creation of an impressive 78 submitted games in just a 48-hour period, showcasing the incredible skill and dedication of the jammers.
Game Dev London, renowned for its commitment to creating opportunities for aspiring game developers, served as the epicentre for jammers to connect, network, and collaborate, solidifying its reputation as the go-to place for nurturing the next generation of game development talent in the UK.
This year’s Global Game Jam proved to be a massive success, with over 52 participating sites across the UK and a staggering 797 sites worldwide. This year’s event tasked creators with developing games with a “Make me Laugh” theme in 48 hours. Game Dev London’s initiative to foster creativity and collaboration resonated globally, contributing to the overall success of the event.
