Irdeto partners with Ford Trucks on cybersecurity

Cybersecurity firm Irdeto has unveiled a strategic partnership with Ford Trucks, focusing on enhancing security measures for the heavy commercial brand.

Under this collaboration, Irdeto will deliver a fully managed, ISO 27001-certified key lifecycle management service to Ford Trucks, ensuring top-tier security for its product lines and electronic control units (ECUs).

Irdeto’s Keys & Credentials service offers a comprehensive security solution, overseeing the entire lifecycle of trusted identities and secured firmware for connected devices. This service plays a vital role in authenticating each vehicle and fortifying them against potential cyber threats.

The service is ISO 27001 certified, meeting the rigorous standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for information security management systems (ISMS). It ensures that organizations implement robust systems to manage data security risks effectively.

Niels Haverkorn, senior vice president for new markets at Irdeto, explained the significance of establishing trust between connected devices within vehicles, as well as between vehicles and external entities like charging stations. Public key management ensures secure transactions, preventing unauthorized access and potential security breaches.

With the increasing connectivity of vehicles to various devices and networks, cybersecurity solutions become paramount. This trend is further fueled by the rise of electric vehicles, which necessitate enhanced connectivity and security measures.

Irdeto’s service ensures that public keys are managed throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle, with provisions for key revocation and replacement when necessary. This capability aligns with regulatory requirements such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regulation No. 155, which mandates cybersecurity standards for vehicles and electronic components.

Emrah Duman, Ford Trucks leader, emphasized the collaboration’s role in enhancing vehicle security and trust in the connected world. The partnership reflects Ford Truck’s commitment to innovation and safety, paving the way for smarter and safer vehicles in the future.
