Gert Jan van Hardeveld is a specialist at Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3). He specialises in cryptocurrency and cybercrime. Together with his colleagues, he aims to bring Europol’s partners up to speed in the rapidly developing field of cryptocurrency investigations.

At Europol, Gert Jan has been responsible for the development of Cryptopol 2.0, an award winning cryptocurrency training game for law enforcement on Ethereum, DeFi, and more.

Before joining Europol, Gert Jan worked as a Senior Cyber Investigation Specialist at Dutch law enforcement agency FIOD, where he focused on financial cybercrime cases related to money laundering and cryptocurrencies. Gert Jan holds a PhD in Web Science from the University of Southampton.
