DuelBits is positioning Africa as a priority growth region for crypto gaming and crypto casinos, citing accelerating stablecoin adoption and a “digital-first player base,” according to Jasper Hoekert, Chief Marketing Officer at the operator.
Hoekert pointed to third-party research that has repeatedly flagged Sub-Saharan Africa as a fast-growing crypto region, with Nigeria frequently highlighted as one of the world’s most active cryptocurrency markets. He also referenced South Africa’s role as a regional hub for digital asset adoption, and argued that stablecoins are gaining traction as users look for faster, lower-cost and more predictable transactions.
DuelBits said its key African markets include South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Nigeria, where football “continues to dominate betting activity.” The company added that basketball and cricket generate “significant engagement compared to other regions.” On payments, Hoekert said: “while Bitcoin remains incredibly popular, players are increasingly choosing USDT, USDC, Tron, and BNB because they provide the speed and convenience of crypto without the same level of price volatility.”
The company’s message to operators is that payments alone won’t be a differentiator. “Offering crypto payments is no longer enough on its own anymore,” Hoekert said, adding that operators need to focus on which assets local players prefer, settlement speed, and “what sporting content resonates most strongly in each region.” He also argued that a mobile-first product and market-by-market acquisition and retention are increasingly necessary, because player behaviour and stake sizes can differ from established European markets.
On regulation, DuelBits pointed to South Africa’s licensing requirements for crypto asset service providers and said Nigeria has moved from a restrictive posture toward a more structured framework focused on licensing, consumer protection and anti-money laundering oversight. Hoekert also cited the IMF’s view that stablecoins are becoming a bigger part of Africa’s digital payments infrastructure, and referenced a Reuters-covered survey claiming high stablecoin ownership in Nigeria and South Africa. “Africa isn’t just one huge market, it’s dozens of unique markets with different payment habits, sporting preferences, and player expectations,” he said.
