Broken Arrow shows no indication of slowing down, with June 2025 being the window in which this hugely awaited modern warfare RTS parachutes into the hands of gamers and RTS fans alike. With January RTS Fest now underway, Broken Arrow will be featured and as always, is sure to stand out from the crowd.
Beginning with humble developer diaries to now amassing 800,000 Steam wishlists, as well as full lobbies in previous beta tests that later resulted in extended availability. Broken Arrow from Steel Balalaika and Slitherine is well on track for a grand launch with many milestones already under its belt.
So, what is Broken Arrow? Set in a hypothetical modern-day war between the US and Russia, this realistic RTS featuring a single-player campaign and an exciting multiplayer mode allows players to choose not only their faction, but also their army’s specialisation, such as mechanised infantry or armored assault. The battleground is a blank canvas for the player, meaning they can shape the outcome in any way they desire.
Back in 2021, Broken Arrow was officially announced. Upon doing so, developer Steel Balalaika was immediately met with a deluge of positive interest from the community. So much so that Slitherine, together with Steel Balalaika, began debuting Developer Diaries, totaling 12 as of today. These diaries offer the viewer a peek behind the curtain regarding unit updates, what’s changed, and Q&A recaps. These can be viewed via the official Steam blog.
As the months pressed on, so did the ever-growing interest and intrigue for Broken Arrow. Between September 2022 and November 2024, multiple betas and gameplay reveals went live, as well as a demo in February 2023 that became available in the Steam Next Fest. The result of this Steam Next Fest was hugely positive and catapulted this demo as one of the most downloaded during the festival. In addition, the multiplayer open beta that ran in November 2024 attracted 500,000 players and reached a peak of 20,000 simultaneous players.
On December 10th, 2024, fans of Broken Arrow were treated to a brand new showcase of the game, an insightful view from Steel Balalaika’s Creative Director Félix Habert, and finally the release date window announcement of June 2025. As 2024 came to an end and 2025 began, Slitherine and the global video game and technology marketing agency Heaven Media combined forces and will be working collaboratively throughout 2025 on Broken Arrow pre and post-launch.
