Artificial intelligence, proven at NASA and in neurosurgery, could remake childhood education, says tech exec

Neural networks and large-language models are poised to revolutionize American education, according to tech entrepreneur Alex Galvagni in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital in New York City.

Galvagni, CEO of Age of Learning based in California, which produces educational products like ABCmouse Early Learning Academy, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) has been a longstanding presence in various sectors long before it gained widespread attention. He highlighted AI’s early use in the U.S. space program and in medical fields such as brain surgery.

“In the 1990s, while at NASA, we applied AI to complex problems, including Space Shuttle operations and telescope balancing aboard a 747,” Galvagni recalled. “Similarly, AI and neural networks were pivotal in assisting delicate brain surgeries, using sensors to provide real-time feedback to surgeons.”

Over the past decade at Age of Learning, where he assumed the role of CEO in September, Galvagni has seen AI evolve significantly. He believes education is the next frontier for AI’s transformative impact.

“AI has historically tackled nonlinear systems, and recent advancements in neural networks, particularly large-language models, now enable personalized educational experiences,” Galvagni explained. “This technology allows us to tailor learning content to each child’s needs and pace.”

Galvagni emphasized that Age of Learning’s AI-powered educational programs are designed to complement teachers rather than replace them.

“Our products are tools to empower teachers,” he clarified. “In classrooms with diverse student needs, our software helps teachers provide targeted instruction. We offer detailed dashboards and data analytics to assist teachers in identifying areas where each child requires additional support.”

He concluded, “This model not only enhances individualized learning but also supports teachers in optimizing classroom instruction effectively.”
