Lemon, a Manchester-Based Fintech, Raises Over €580K in Pre-Seed Funding to Fuel Growth

Manchester-based fintech Lemon has successfully concluded its pre-seed funding round, securing over €580K to propel its business into the next phase of development. This round was led by SFC Capital, the UK’s most active early-stage VC, and Pitchdrive, a specialized European fund focusing on pre-seed and seed investment. Beyond financial backing, Lemon’s investors bring invaluable expertise and guidance, setting the stage for Lemon’s growth journey from the outset.

In addition to the significant VC investment, Lemon has attracted angel investment from notable figures such as Nick Dodd, an ex-partner of Debt Advisory at KPMG, and the Co-Founder of fintech communications agency SkyParlour Started. Both Dodd and the Co-Founder have joined Lemon’s advisory board, further enriching the support network for the company.

Lemon’s core offering is a platform enabling SMBs to discover, finance, and manage their Software as a Service (SaaS) subscriptions. Lemon’s research indicates that SMBs often spend upwards of £30,000 annually on SaaS software, with many businesses unaware of their high expenditure. Lemon’s platform empowers SMBs to consolidate and oversee their subscriptions, identify overspending, gain insights into company-wide SaaS usage, and streamline business costs, resulting in an average spending reduction of 20%.

With the successful fundraising, Lemon is poised to focus on product development. Assisted by the appointment of a new Chief Technical Officer, Matt Parke, and soon a new Content & Community manager, Lemon aims to collaborate closely with early customers to tailor the product to meet their specific needs. The focus during this phase will be on optimizing tools and working towards achieving early product/market fit, with the ultimate goal of continually reducing SaaS spend for SMBs. Lemon also plans to enhance its product functionality to include cost-saving instant credit options for SMBs, further expanding its value proposition.

Ed Stevenson, Investment Executive at SFC Capital, expressed excitement about backing Lemon in their pre-seed round, emphasizing the significant value Lemon brings in reducing SaaS costs and centralizing management. Matt Bird, Co-founder and CEO of Lemon, highlighted Lemon’s mission to provide cost-efficient tools and services to SMBs amidst a challenging economic landscape.

Koen Christiaens, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Pitchdrive, echoed the sentiment, expressing confidence in Lemon’s vision to revolutionize subscription management for SMBs and become a household name in the SaaS industry in the coming years.
