Worldline and Crédit Agricole unveil new merchant payments joint venture CAWL

Global paytech Worldline and Crédit Agricole have revealed the identity of their new payments services brand for merchants in France.

Dubbed CAWL, the joint venture will offer payment acceptance and payment acquisition solutions integrated with business-specific value-added services.

The partnership between the two firms was first announced last year, with the new offering aiming to combine Worldline’s tech and services with Crédit Agricole’s “commercial performance and distribution power”.

The Paris-listed paytech says that, starting in 2025, CAWL will “enable merchants to access multi-currency, multi-country, multi-payment network services, and alternative payment methods, supported by a pan-European acquisition platform and personalised services”.

This will include Smart Point of Sale (POS) solutions for in-store merchants, and a payments platform for their online equivalents.

Meriem Echcherfi, who has previously served as Crédit Agricole’s head of merchant payment services as well as the group’s head of strategy, has also been appointed as CEO of the new venture.

She claims the offering “combines service, proximity, and high technology, leveraging the strengths of Crédit Agricole and Worldline”, and will result in “integrated offerings that significantly increase the added value for merchants”.
