New Nintendo console reportedly delayed until 2025

A report from Video Game Chronicle on February 17, corroborated by Bloomberg and Eurogamer, indicates that Nintendo has delayed the launch of its Switch successor console to early 2025.

Bloomberg reported that “Nintendo has told some publishing executives not to expect the console until March 2025 at the earliest.” The new release date would mean it misses the 2024 holiday period which is high in sales, but would still be within the company’s fourth quarter of the 2025/3 fiscal year.

The Switch is currently in its seventh year since releasing in March 2017 and has sold over 139 million units throughout its lifetime.

While Nintendo Switch sales declined 7.8% YoY in Nintendo’s Q3 report this month, the company raised its hardware projections for the FY from 15 million to 15.5 million units, supported by growth in sales of the OLED version of the console, which increased 6.2% YoY in contrast to the base Switch’s 34.9% reduction in sales YoY.
