Spain’s Banco Sabadell selects NCR Atleos as ATM network partner

Banco Sabadell, the fourth largest private banking group in Spain, has selected NCR Atleos as its ATM network partner in a push to expand its customers’ ability to access cash and financial services beyond its bank branches.

The partnership will see the bank join NCR Atleos’ ATM network, which in turn will enable its customers in Spain to use the approximately 1,400 ATMs NCR Atleos manages across the country for bank services including withdrawing cash.

According to the vendor, which is headquartered in Atlanta, USA, having access to the network will enable the bank to “reduce complexity and boost operational efficiency, while providing optimum availability and access for customers”.

The network also supports additional features including NCR Pay360, a code-to-cash system, and NCR Atleos LocatorSearch, a mobile and app-based solution that allows customers to pinpoint the exact location of ATM services.

Banco Sabadell, which is headquartered in Alicante, Spain, currently operates 3,200 of its own ATMs as well as a network of 14,500 others provided by third-party banks. Consisting of several banks, brands and subsidiaries, the group provides retail, commercial and private banking services to around 12.1 million customers worldwide, and maintains close to 1,600 physical locations, according to figures for 2022.

The group notably sold 80% of its merchant acquiring business to the Italian paytech Nexi last year in a deal worth €280 million.

Speaking on the new partnership, Daniel Pelluz, head of cards and retail banking at Banco Sabadell, claims the selection of NCR Atleos was made due to its “proven track record of success owning and operating ATM networks”, while anticipating that the agreement will enable the group to deliver improved customer experience outside of its branches “in a way that is operationally efficient for us”.
